Main). The property is historically known as\u00a0the &#8220;Back Spring Lot,&#8221; after\u00a0the\u00a0very bold spring in the back yard that serves as a principal\u00a0source of water for Town Creek, a tributary\u00a0of\u00a0the Maury River.\u00a0 As one of downtown&#8217;s only &#8220;waterfront&#8221; properties,\u00a0it offers a shady respite from the summer heat.<\/p>\n<p>The building&#8217;s\u00a0unusual shed roof with a tall front parapet-like fa\u00e7ade lends the cottage a <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-thumbnail wp-image-248 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/lesliegiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMAG4321-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"IMAG4321\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>less-residential look than other houses nearby; the\u00a0two 4-panel front doors suggest it was\u00a0 previously used either as a duplex or as a house + shop\/office.\u00a0The cottage\u00a0appears to have been built in at least two stages, and was last renovated in the 1990s.
